A pilgrimage searching for himself and God, following the Way of St
James from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Santiago de Compostella.
Described in a funny and wonderful way.
Russia, Sibiria, Russian history:
The princess of Siberia. Maria Wolkonskaja and her time. (German) from Christine Sutherland:
Life story of an impressive woman. Maria Wolkonskaja follows her
husband into Siberian exile, to which he is sentenced because of his
participation in the rebellion of the Decembrists. In Siberia they live
under hardest conditions, until they are allowed to return into
European Russia after 30 years. During her time in Siberia Maria
Wolkonskaja impacted and sponsored cultural development of Irkutsk
significantly.
Gulag. A History. (English) from Anne Applebaum:
Comprehensive history of the Gulag. Anne Applebaum describes the
economic, social and political background of the Soviet forced labour
system which hit its peak under Stalin. Very comprehensive and
interesting but nothing for weak nerves.
India:
The Sari. (English) from Mukulika Banerjee & Daniel Miller:
Faszinating and colourful description of the traditional Indian
clothing. The book gives insights in the social aspects of the sari and
complexity of life of woman in India.
